Cal Poly’s women’s basketball team opened the CCAA Tournament with a strong win over the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes 63-46.

“We did what we needed to do,” said Broncos head coach Scott Davis. “We got the lead and held the lead.”

The Broncos took the lead early and never looked back, extending to a 31-15 lead at half time. The second half saw the Broncos coast home to finish with a 17-point win.

Senior forward Stephisha Walton led the Broncos on offense with a team-high 14 points. Junior guard Reyana Colson scored 12 points for Cal Poly.

“A lot of people put the emphasis on the West Regionals, but I’m putting the emphasis on the CCAA Tournament.” said Davis. “The West Regionals will just be bonus.”

The Broncos will next play Friday night in the semifinals hosted by Humboldt State. Stay tuned to thepolypost.com for more details on Friday’s matchup, tonight’s game and video highlights.
