Cal Poly’s track and field team records good results in Cal State Stanislaus

The rain cleared up just in time for Saturday’s track meet at Cal State Stanislaus in the Kim Duyst Invitational. 

“It was a good meet,” said Coach Johnson.  “We are starting off pretty solid.”

The meet was only the third to be held at the Cal State Stanislaus track enabling Cal Poly Track and Field to set some records.  

Senior All-American Jonathan Williams won both the 100 (10.62 seconds) and the long jump (22-4 ¼). Williams also ran in the 4 x 100 relay team with Jake Deavers, Corey Arnold and Carter Griffin, which placed third.  

Junior Carter Griffin placed first in the 400 (48.20) and also took part in the win of the  4 x 400 relay with (3:15.79) with Arnold, Deavers, and freshman Matt Boudreau.

Deavers won two events for the day, improving his personal best in the 110 hurdles to 14.68 and winning the 400-intermediate hurdles (54.64).

Arnold placed third in the 400 in 48.87 seconds and freshman Shane Cioni was fourth in the discus with 138 feet, 5 inches.

Senior Amanda Smith tied for first in the long jump (17-1 ¼) and won the javelin (119-10). Tramieka Thomas took first in the100-meter hurdles (14.94) and was part of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.

“Our throwers competed to the highest level,” said Johnson. “Marti Carrington having a personal best of over 40 feet.” 

Carrington placed fourth in the shot put at 40 feet, 2 inches.

Senior Tokunbo Adeniji won the 400 meters in 56.17 seconds.

Senior Megan Emami won the triple jump with a leap of 36-5 and took fourth in the long jump at 16-8.

Freshman Brooke Gamble took third in the 200 in 25.82 seconds.   Sophomore  Kyle Wolff  placed third in the 800 in 2:19.36.  Senior Amber Hebb placed fourth in the 5,000 in 18:12.00.  Junior Ileana Tejada placed second in both discuss with130-4 and the hammer throw with 155-01.  Freshman Alexandra Pankey placed fourth in the triple jump at 33-10 ¼.

Ariel Whitney, Thomas, Adeniji and Gamble placed second in the 4 x 100 relay in 48.39 seconds. Thomas, Wolff, Gamble and Adeniji placed second in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 3:57.1.

“We just have some technical aspects of some events we need to clean up on and I think we will be better for it in the long run,” said Johnson.
