The Hilda L. Solis Scholarship Dinner and Reception will honor local reporter Laura Diaz.
She is the recipient of this year’s Nopal Award and will speak at the event on Thursday.
Diaz is known for her work with KBCBS-TV and KTTV Fox 11 in Los Angeles.
The scholarship dinner is named after a Cal Poly Pomona alumna who is now the United States Secretary of Labor.
Solis is the first Latina to serve under the United States Cabinet.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the Kellogg West Conference Center.
Also on Thursday, the Communication Department will host its annual COM Day, entitled “Join the Webolution.”
The event will feature best-selling author Julie Powell as the keynote speaker.
Powell is known for her book, “Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen.”
The event will also feature Tim Mead, vice president of communications for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who is also a CPP alumnus, and Barbara Davidson, a 2011 Pulitzer Prize winner for feature photography.
“Join the Webolution” will begin at 9 a.m. and will run until 5:30 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center.
