Constant status updates on Facebook reveal students cannot stop talking about spring break.
The usual hot spot for spring break is Mexico, but this year students are flocking to the desert, or the beach or are simply heading home to relax.
“[I’ll be] resting to be ready for spring,” said Don Huinh, a third-year civil engineer student. “No plans.”
Other students are hoping for the opposite. “My friend is coming in town from West Point, so we are probably going to the beach even if it is cold,” said Amanda Rua, a first-year zoology student. “Then Vegas at the end of spring break with friends and go swimming and maybe a club. The rest is kind of up in the air.”
Desert cities have become the go-to destination for student’s spring break this year.
“I am taking a three day trip to Palm Springs, maybe go to Morongo and go swimming if it is not too freezing,” said Melissa Scheer, a first-year communication student. “I [have had these plans] for probably a couple months.”
Some are just waiting for this quarter to end so they can have more excitement in their daily lives.
“We definitely need a break from finals,” said Ashley Eddy, a first-year liberal studies student.
Eddy has had her spring break plans in the works for a couple of days.
“I am going to Havasu and then I am partying,” said Eddy. “Me and my friends go there and sometimes they will have the Budweiser boat; a big two story boat and they give you VIPs and stuff.”
The talk of Lake Havasu in Arizona during spring break seems to be the new Mexico to party.
“I want to go to Havasu because apparently there is a big thing going on there,” said Roy Delgado, a first-year electronic engineering technology student.
Delgado and Eddy are planning to attend S.W.A.T. and Rockstar Energy Drink’s Spring Break 2010 at Lake Havasu, March 28-31.
Four hotels in Arizona are offering three-night hotel accommodations, on-site boat rentals and tours. The event itself includes day and night events, DJs, raves and a stop light party.
Other students have plans to leave the country, rather than staying local.
“I might be going to England,” said Zach Shannon, a second-year computer science student. “I met some friends over the summer who are from England and I have always wanted to go [there].”
