A bowl of Fried Zucchini sticks topped with Parmesan Cheese.

Sasha Ramazani/Poly Post

Mr. G’s zucchini sticks are the perfect appetizer with a slightly crunchy batter and topped with a generous amount of Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley. This New York-style pizzeria is located in the Diamond Hills Plaza.

The time has come for me to bid farewell to the weekly dining endeavors this column has taken me to.

Through all the crunchy, fried, bland and spicy foods I have tasted this quarter and last, I have learned more about my palette than ever before.

Each place I have visited gave me a better perspective on cuisines offered locally around Pomona including Walnut, Diamond Bar and Claremont.

I have learned that a plate of food is not just about the ingredients carefully placed on there, but that each component compliments one another and adds to the dish.

Some of my favorite places to eat include the Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch, Mr. G’s New York Style Pizzeria and Farmer Boys.

The RKR, located in the Collins College, has something for everyone to enjoy.

Whether it’s a weekly special surf-n-turf burger, pan seared duck or an apple crisp, most everything on the menu is well worth the value and very flavorsome.

One thing which stands out at the RKR is the bread and butter, which is served as the starter to any meal.

The variety of fresh baked rolls and butter are a reason to visit the RKR in itself.

Mr. G’s, located on Diamond Bar Boulevard, serves up some of Diamond Bar’s best Italian food.

Mouth-watering items here include zucchini sticks, garlic bread, the supreme pizza on thin crust and lasagna.

Whatever items you try on the menu, just be assured it was made fresh and will taste much better than what franchise pizza joints offer.

Farmer Boys, located off of South Brea Canyon Road, truly offers a wide variety of options especially with the choice of dining in or driving-thru.

The breakfast burritos and the fish and chips are a must try.

Serving breakfast all day is a definite plus for college students and all the meals are priced accordingly, especially with all the side additions included in the meal.

While I’m sure I missed some culinary hot spots around Cal Poly, there are some places I’ve had yet to mention.

The following restaurants are all located in the Towne Center Village Shopping Center off of Grand Avenue and Diamond Bar Boulevard.

The Whole Enchilada serves up some appetizing tacos, burritos and enchiladas, but best part about the meal here is the dessert, served standard with the bill.

The perfect ending to the Mexican meal are triangle-shaped, fresh and crunchy tortilla crisps covered with cinnamon and sugar which will satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth.

A few doors down, Lollicup offers a wide variety of smoothies, slushies and boba-infused drinks, my favorite being the boba honey milk tea.

For the die-hard sushi lovers, an outstanding hole in the wall is Kyala Japanese restaurant.

While this place can get jam-packed during dinner hours, the wait is worth it.

The dragon roll, which is a California roll covered in freshwater eel and avocado, uses fresh eel and plenty of sweet sauce to top this roll off.

The baked salmon roll, also has a California roll base, is then topped off with baked salmon and sweet sauce.

These restaurants are all located in Towne Center Village Shopping Center off of Grand Avenue and Diamond Bar Boulevard.

Who knows where this column will take me after I graduate, if I will continue or perhaps blog about my endeavors, but one thing I am certain of is that I love food and will never give up trying new things.

All I can say is you can never judge a pizza by its box so give yourself the benefit of the doubt and try something new. Who knows, might be delicious.
