The night before the first official day of fall quarter can cause anxiety, stress and endless questions.

What is the campus like? Where are these classes?

BroncoFusion, an annual, day-long event filled with mixers, workshops, entertainment and food, has the answers.

This year’s BroncoFusion will take place in September on the 1,400-acre campus for all incoming and returning students.

“Meeting other people and seeing the concert at night made me feel a part of Cal Poly,” said Branden Amay, a fifth-year philosophy student.

During the day, helpful workshops related to campus life are offered, along with a club and resource information fair to help students get involved.

Freshmen can take advantage of the “Find Your Classes” booth where student volunteers use their expertise to answer questions and weigh in on class locations and parking spots.

At night, the campus transforms into a massive, outdoor music venue hosting a special concert performance, which is free for all Cal Poly students.

Karlo Arenas, ASI program assistant, said he could not disclose the acts for this year’s performance, but he did offer a few hints.

“We try to follow the current trends. Bands that mix a combination of electro, hip-hop and rock are popular,” said Arenas.

Previous performers include Rx Bandits, De La Soul, Plain White T’s, Crown City Rockers and One Republic.

BroncoFusion is put on by ASI BEAT, a student run organization that organizes a variety of music and art events throughout the school year.

BEAT focuses on coordinating events that allow students to express themselves through music and art.

Quarterly events, Session [A] and Strictly Sessions, aim to promote hip-hop culture through live performances and open floors for student expression.

Students can tap into their artistic sides through Bronco Art Gallery showcases, annual Chalk Festival drawing competitions, movie screenings and guest speakers.

Midnight Madness and Nite Owl happen at the end of each quarter during finals week and provide 24-hour access to study rooms, free food, karaoke and other stress-free activities.

ASI BEAT has several exciting events planned for the 2009-10 school year, including its annual 3D Leadership Conference set for Nov. 13.

Dustin Lance Black, screenplay writer of the Academy Award winning film “Milk,” will be the event’s keynote speaker.
